How do i text on my blackberry bold?

I got a black berry the other day and ive been trying to figure it out how to text but i dont know how.
I knew how to text on my other phone so its not like im a n00b at texting but i just cannot figure it out here.

Go to your messages icon, should look something like an envelope. Once you’re there, scroll the trackball up to the date (pressing ‘T’ is usually the easiest way) and then press the icon directly to the left of the trackball, with the BlackBerry symbol on it. Click ‘Composes SMS Text’, find the person you’d like to text, and click the appropriate phone number.
Type in your message. Press the trackball again when you’re finished, and press ‘Send’.
BBs are a little confusing at first, but it only takes a short while to get the hang of ‘em!
