Blackberry Curve 8330 or Blackberry Curve 8900?

My mom is getting me the Alltel Blackberry Curve for Christmas. I recently found out that there is a newer one that is to be released soon. It is supposed to be much better. My question is, should I go ahead and get the current Curve since my mom will be buying it for me, or should I wait until the newer one is released. This will be my first Blackberry, so I almost feel like I should just let my mom get me the current one, and I can see how I like it. Any ideas?
